Other
Sifu Emily Barnes has been teaching martial arts for thirty years with her first school opening in 1998. Her main school remained on Long Island, but she also taught in Rhode Island and led the Kempo Club at Harvard University, Massachusetts.
Her relocation to Rochester, NY came in 2023 after her retirement from teaching. Since living in Rochester she has come to love the area and the community, but couldn't help but notice the absence of real life self defense training and traditional martial arts for adults.
In 2026 Sifu Emily decided to start the Universal Kempo Club to fill the needs of the community by offering real life self defense and traditional martial arts training for children and adults with a focus on underrepresented communities.
